  • Japanese Breakfast

My favorite album of all time for many years now. I love it so much I got a tattoo of it. Every now and then I get scared I might have outgrowned it. But each new listen brings a new layer of symbolism for me and only deepens my connection to it. It manages to heal me everytime in new, beautiful ways and will forever hold so much significance in my eyes. I think japanese breakfast has this incredible ability to convey deep, layered emotions in such simple, straightforward ways. She honors every facet of every feelings with this pudic detachment that makes it all so relatable. Every feeling is anchored in space and time by a stable flow between introspective, gutwrenching emotion rich lines and rich descriptions. All throughout, she also retains such clever wittyness, making the whole piece more palatable, bittersweet and incredibly powerful. The lyrics are perfectly intertwined with deep instrumentals setting a peculiar, dreamy ambiance that reminds me a lot of Pink Floyd. I love this album to another planet and back and could talk about it forever.
